Why You Need a Vectorized Logo for Your Business

  • What is a vector file? - An infinitely scalable image
  • Why are vectorized logos essential? - Professional appearance, variety of uses
  • How can you get a vector logo for your own business? - Vector programs or by hiring a graphic designer such as Asho Designs!

When you zoom into an image on your phone or computer you may start to see the individual pixels that make up that image. If you were to scale that image onto a billboard, it would look fuzzy, blurry, and you might even think it appears unprofessional. You might wonder how popular brands make their logos look so sharp on billboards, screens, buildings, trucks, etc. What if you could keep zooming into an image and the image never got blurry? That’s exactly what makes a vector file so important for businesses that want to showcase their logos and other graphics.

Raster vs. Vector File Example

What is a vector graphic?

A vector graphic is an image/graphic that never loses quality no matter how much you scale it. This means it can be scaled to an infinite size without losing quality. These graphics can also be scaled down infinitely without losing quality. The logos you see on large signs and billboards are most likely vectorized. The most common vector file formats are SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), EPS (Encapsulated PostScript), and PDF (Portable Document Format). It is important to note that while photos and detailed images can be converted to a vector format, this results in a cartoony look that isn't always desired.

The opposite of a vector file is a raster file. Photos, pixelated images, and most videos are examples of raster files. As you zoom into these images or videos, you begin to see individual pixels and blur. Common raster file formats are PNG (Portable Network Graphic), JPG/JPEG ( Joint Photographic Experts Group), TIFF (Tag Image File Format), and GIF (Graphic Interchange Format).

Why are vectorized logos essential for a business?

Vectorized logos are essential because as you market your business and begin to scale the physical size of your logo and other branding, you want those images to stay sharp and high quality. Your logo may take many forms both physical and digital. For example, imagine you own a food truck and you want to put your logo on the side of the truck. An image that isn’t in vector format would appear blurry and/or pixelated around the edges. This comes across as unprofessional to customers and could negatively impact their first impression of your business. A vectorized logo ensures that unwanted pixelization and blur does not result from scaling the logo.

Vector files are commonly used by various manufacturers that you may use to implement your marketing plan. For example, you may purchase a custom sign to place on top of your store to attract customers and let them know where your store is. Sign manufacturers need a high quality file of your logo such as a vector EPS file in order to create your sign.

As long as you have a vector logo, you can use it an infinite amount of times in advertisements, on different sized products, incorporate it into packaging, patterns, decorations, and more. The possibilities are endless.

How can you get a vectorized logo for your own business?

Vector files are most often created with the program Adobe Illustrator or another similar program. While Adobe Illustrator is a costly software, you yourself can turn any sketch or raster image into a vector file using the tools the software offers. If you aren’t experienced with Adobe Illustrator, you can hire a graphic designer to create a vectorized logo for you. Lucky for you, I can do that! ;) If you are in the market for a vector logo, or have other design needs, let’s work together!
